Queens County Dental Society

Home Queens County Dental Society

Welcome to the QCDS website. Our aim is to encourage the improvement of the health of the public, promote the art and science of dentistry and to represent the interests of the members of the profession and the public we serve. QCDS can assist patients seeking a dentist in their area by providing names and addresses of member dentists convenient to the patient’s location.

QCDS is one of thirteen component members of the New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) which in turn is a member of the American Dental Association(ADA). Under this tripartite system, QCDS members belong to both the NYSDA and the ADA as well as to QCDS.

The not-for-profit ADA is the nation’s largest dental association, representing more than 156,000 dentist members. The premier source of oral health information, the ADA has advocated for the public’s health and promoted the art and science of dentistry since 1859. The ADA’s state-of-the-art research facilities develop and test dental products and materials that have advanced the practice of dentistry and made the patient experience more positive. The ADA Seal of Acceptance long has been a valuable and respected guide to consumer dental care products. JADA, a monthly journal, is the ADA’s flagship publication and the best-read scientific journal in dentistry.

The New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) has been the voice for the dental profession in New York State since its founding in 1868. With 14,000 members (76 percent of practicing dentists in the state), NYSDA is one of the largest state constituents of the American Dental Association.

NYSDA provides its members with a powerful presence in the Legislature, business development programs, peer review, a clinical journal and educational and scientific programs that promote the art and science of dentistry.
Our members can avail themselves of a variety of continuing education courses that provide the latest information on clinical matters, practice management and new technologies that enable the member to provide the best treatment to every patient. Many courses are offered at little or no cost to members through the generosity of sponsors of these programs.

Our bi-monthly Bulletin is a source of articles regarding news events, clinical and legislative updates and general information to our members. Anyone wishing to advertise can click here for further information.

QCDS provides a variety of member benefits available only to members. The tripartite system of membership in the local QCDS component, the NYSDA, and the ADA provides over 150,000 members with a formidable voice in speaking on your behalf on the national, state and local level. An alternative dispute resolution process in lieu of lawsuits and complaints to the Office of Professional Discipline is available to members through the Peer Review view process that enables a patient dissatisfied with the results of a procedure to obtain an impartial review of the dentistry and possible refund if the dentistry is found to be inappropriate.

It is our hope the information on our website will enable our members to make the most out of their membership and to provide the public with information regarding the benefits of choosing a dentist who is a member of organized dentistry.

Patients seeking a referral to a member dentist in their community can use the Find A Dentist feature to locate a member dentist including general practitioners and specialists. We welcome comments/suggestions which can be e-mailed to info@www.qcdsdental.org or sent to our address: 86-90 188 Street, Jamaica N.Y. 11423

COURSE TITLE/DESCRIPTION

“Annual OSHA-Mandated Update for Dentists and Staff; What You Need to Know to Comply with the Law”

This course includes New Information including additional requirements for Dental Practice. This requirement is separate from the NYS Mandatory Infection Control Re-Licensure requirement of every four years for dentists and hygienists. OSHA 29 CFR Part 1910.1030 States: Personnel subject to Occupational Exposure should receive Infection Control Training on initial assignment, when new tasks or procedures affect their occupational exposure, and at minimum annually. Staff are encouraged to attend and must be registered for the same course with their employers. (In the live webinar, all must be present with video on.)

EDUCATION OBJECTIVES & GOALS

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is responsible for ensuring safe working conditions for all employees. The goal of this course is to inform attendees of the OSHA changes. The updates will be discussed in detail with handouts or reference links that will help guide the practitioner, hygienist and staff comply with the mandate that was instituted in 2016, and any other changes that have occurred after that date. Practitioners are encouraged to bring their staff members to facilitate compliance: otherwise, practitioners must fabricate their own document acknowledging dissemination of this update to their staff and place such documentation into the office manual. If an employer has staff attend the webinar, a separate employer/employee training attestation document will be emailed after course completion to the employer to place into their office manual. Employers and their employees must be present, acknowledged in the webinar attendance record.
