Contemporary implant practice has advanced significantly over the past 4 decades. It is no longer considered appropriate to follow a “bone driven” approach. Rather a “prosthetic driven” approach is favored. Careful prosthetic driven planning often leads to the discovery that there is insufficient bone to place implants in correct position. Bone grafting allows for the “creation” of additional bone in order to accommodate correct implant placement. When, how and why to utilize this advanced modality will be covered.
Dr. David E. Azar graduated from NYU College of Dentistry in 1979 and completed a General Practice Residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in 1981. He has maintained a private practice in Lower Manhattan since 1984 where he practices all phases of dentistry. Dr. Azar has been involved in implant dentistry since 1999 and in 2009 he earned a Master Clinician in Implant Dentistry from the UCLA School of Dentistry and the Global Institute for Dental Education (UCLA/gIDE) under the tutelage of Dr. Sascha Jovanovic. Dr. Azar is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology (ABOI) as well as a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantology. He is on the faculty of gIDE and is the Director of the gIDE NYC Implant Study Club. Dr. Azar has published several articles on implant dentistry in print and on-line and has lectured extensively on implant dentistry and instructed in live patient and Hands-On courses. When Dr. Azar is not doing dentistry he is spending time with his 8 grandchildren or out on his boat saltwater fly fishing or slinging clay on the potter’s wheel. Dr. Azar is a Coast Guard certified charter boat captain and enjoys leading others to the catch of a lifetime as much as he enjoys catching them himself!
