Course Title: Updates in Oral Appliance Care and Retention

Presenter: Dr. James Kouzoukian

Course Time: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM EST

Course Description: “It is estimated that 36 million Americans are fully edentulous. An even higher number are missing several, or perhaps, most of their teeth. Dentures are worn by or will be fabricated for many of these individuals and many are represented in our client populations as existing or potential patients.

Other removable oral appliances include nightguards, aligners and airway devices in addition to full and partial dentures. Materials used in the fabrication of these devices include acrylics, metal alloys, flexible thermoplastics, etc. All of these modern treatment options must be cleansed on a daily basis to prevent the pathology associated with contaminated surfaces contacting delicate oral mucosa.
Maintenance of these prosthodontic and treatment devices, whether they are tissue borne, tooth borne or implant retained, is a responsibility of members of our profession. Our patients must be introduced to the new materials that have been created to assist in cleansing of dentures and other removable oral devices to prevent infection and contamination. Respiratory passages have, of late, been of particular interest with regard to pathology associated with inadequately maintained oral sleep medicine devices. The new cleansers will address this issue. Also, new adhesives have been developed to provide patients with reliable retention in the mouth during function. This seminar identifies these newly developed advanced materials and describes their benefits.
The inventor of these new cleansers and adhesives will be personally available to discuss the products at the booth and will provide samples to the attendees.”
