Course Description:
This course will include topics that will enable dentists to provide oral appliances for sleep apnea in their practices. The pathophysiology, airway anatomy, sleep testing, standard of care, appliance selection, proper protocol, collaboration with physicians, and marketing will all be discussed. Different treatments for sleep disorder breathing will be examined as well as a combination of treatments. One out of five adults has obstructive sleep apnea. Dentists need to improve their screening techniques and develop the expertise to fabricate these oral appliances. This course will give a systematic approach to treating sleep apnea. It is recommended for any dentist that is incorporating this treatment in their practices. Dr. Feigenbaum is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. He will discuss proper protocol and Standard of Care for doing oral appliances for sleep apnea. Sleep testing and oral appliance selection will also be discussed. Dr. Lown is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. He will discuss sleep medicine for the dentist. This MD-DDS duo were chosen to be speakers at next years annual meeting- the highest honor for doctors in this field. This dentist-physician pair will discuss the collaborative approach to treating obstructive sleep apnea successfully. This course is highly recommended for any dentist thinking of treating this disorder in their office.
Presenter Biography:
Dr. Arthur Feigenbaum is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. He has been on the Board of Trustees of the Queens County Dental Society for the last seven years. He is co-founder of Delta Sleep International, dental director of Delta Sleep Center of Long Island, and dental director of Sleep Diagnostics of New York. This coming year, he is co-chair of the annual meeting for the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and is also on their annual meeting committee.
Dr. Jonathan Lown is the Clinical Director – Delta Sleep Center of Long Island. He is certified in the Areas of Sleep, Internal Medicine and Lipidology. He is the Assistant Professor of Medicine, Stony Brook University Medical School since 1995. Dr. Lown is a Diplomate in Sleep Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine since 2009 and in Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine since 1998. He was diagnosed with OSA in 2000 and is a compliant CPAP user for 18 years.
